Delegation a good omen for mine, February 2025

WENTWORTH Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Linklater has welcomed adelegation of overseas stakeholders interested in the proposedmineral sands mine in the municipality.

Cr Linklater last Wednesday welcomed the Japanese miningexecutives to the Wentworth Visitor Centre, highlighting theinterest from RZ Resources to invest in the region and provideemployment opportunities via the proposed Copi mine.

“So that’s a welcome development there and we’ll see how thatgoes into the future,” Cr Linklater told last week’s monthlyordinary general meeting..

The project – which is planned for the northwest of the shire -aims to create 200 jobs, and is currently seeking New SouthWales Government planning approval.

The mine has received submissions of support and objectionsacross the permit process, including concerns from theAlliance for Responsible Mining Regulation that it would pose a”serious risk” to water quality in the Murray River 25 kilometresaway.

The visit comes after RZ Resources last month madeamendments to its planned mine which included “modifiedmining operations and infrastructure layout to safeguard futuremining areas and enhance environmental protection”.
